Steve Rasmussen Cancian is an Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture at North Carolina A&T State University. He previously taught at UC Berkeley and Cal Poly Pomona. He is a licensed landscape architect specializing in participatory culture and class responsive design. His work on improvement without gentrification has been featured in Landscape Architecture Magazine, the New York Times and the Venice Biennale. Before becoming a designer, he worked as a community organizer for 13 years, including managing Rev. Jesse Jackson's 1988 presidential campaign in New Hampshire and building dozens of multi-cultural, multi-lingual HUD tenant unions in Southern California.
