Sharon has been designing prominent public spaces and institutions of cultural and historic significance in the Washington, DC metropolitan area for over 39 years. She established BSD in 1994 to focus specifically on equitable design in urban communities. She has developed a unique methodology that addresses social, economic, and environmental issues for a more comprehensive approach to design. This model is the focus of her current doctoral research. In addition to numerous design recognitions, Potomac Chapter ASLA Social Impact Award and the District’s Sustainability Award, she was the first landscape architect to receive the DC Mayor’s Environmental Excellence Award.
