The session will present proven, innovative approaches to waterfront edge design, applying ecologically sensitive, science-based concepts and construction technologies. Based on our 2023 Learning Lab we discuss challenges and strategies from design to implementation. We present tools to successfully design for target species and define tangible outcomes. We consider structural and costing requirements, highlighting critical steps for implementation and execution.
Learning Outcomes:
Highlight key principles of ecological engineering for coastal and marine environments.
Demonstrate a holistic approach to urban waterfront design based on innovative materials, increased surface complexity, and science-based macro design using case studies.
Set measurable ecosystem targets when designing for biodiversity.
Consider structural requirements, costing and critical steps for implementation and execution.
