Biodiversity is not exclusive to land and water. The night sky supports significant biological functions for people, plants, and pollinators. This workshop will provide the latest insights you need to implement responsible lighting at night, making beautiful nighttime environments more understood while minimizing biological disruption and damage to nocturnal ecosystems.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the biological and ecological needs of darkness for people, plants, and pollinators.
  • Understand the Five Principles for Responsible Outdoor Lighting.
  • Understand how successful urbanism transforms the value of outdoor space and challenges environmental responsibility.
  • Understand how exterior lighting design can make the nighttime environment more inviting and coherent, thereby supporting reassurance, equity, and engagement without wasting light.
