Born in Washington, D.C., Amir Johnson is Master’s Candidate in the University of Vermont’s Department of Agriculture, Landscape, and Environment (formerly Plant and Soil Science) conducting research in Stephanie Hurley’s Ecological Landscape Design lab. Drawing from both lived experience and his multidisciplinary undergraduate education at Kenyon College, he examines the connections between systemic racism and GSI implementation within urban settings. Additional research includes measuring the nutrient leaching capacity of urban gardens amended with compost. Johnson has worked as a teaching assistant in Landscape Design courses where, in addition to at conferences, he has presented his research.
