TUE-A02: Canary in the Coal Mine: Reviving Landscape Architecture with Community Input

This interactive session will examine the profession’s reactivity to the diverse needs of practitioners and communities we serve. We will discuss thought leadership, practices, and solutions such as equitable data collection tools. Our goal is to empower session goers to voice their observations, roadblocks, and optimism in their practice.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Using an equity lens, discover how landscape architecture is perceived from outside the profession within the context of this case study and how it applies to the broader practice.
  • Establish a shared vocabulary and understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging related specifically to landscape architecture from both a historical and present-day perspective.
  • Explore interactive engagement and data collection techniques, analytic resources, and practical tools to better understand, value, and celebrate every person.
  • Gain practical skills to enact change within your sphere of influence, with the goal of systemic change to lead the profession into a more inclusive, anti-racist, and equitable future.
