Drawing from case studies, ongoing and completed projects, and stakeholder perspectives from around the country, this session offers tools and strategies to help landscape architects understand the challenges and opportunities in designing more just public spaces in partnership with government, unhoused people, and other stakeholders.

Learning Outcomes:

Understand the unique role that landscape architects can play in addressing homelessness in public space.
Learn about government officials’ shifting, nuanced positions and policies regarding homelessness in public space, in order to better understand the opportunities and barriers for landscape architects to intervene.
Learn about tools and strategies from ongoing and completed projects that created more just, inclusive public spaces for unhoused and other users.
Explore and contribute to a “Hippocratic oath” for landscape architects to guide practitioners working with unhoused people.
