This session explores strategies for specifying and obtaining more sustainable materials to reach the goals outlined in the ASLA Climate Action Plan and SITES rating system. Diverse perspectives will be provided by a U.S. federal government agency, a nonprofit third-party certification body, and a landscape architecture and urban design firm.

Learning Outcomes:

Identify proven strategies to achieve SITES v2 material credits and how those relate to ASLA Climate Action goals.
Learn more about EPA’s Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Program and its Inflation Reduction Act–funded Low Embodied Carbon Construction Materials Program, including Environmental Product Declaration Assistance and Carbon Labeling.
Understand the SITES v2 rating system’s focus on materials and connection to supporting climate action.
Learn about the multiple attributes in defining sustainable materials that encompass circular, low-carbon, and healthy concepts.
